Dr. Carver grew up in Denver, Colorado where she spent her childhood enjoying the outdoors while hiking, camping and skiing. Her veterinary career started at a young age when she would rescue tiny mice from her brother’s pet snake. Dr. Carver’s shared her father’s love of animals and grew up in a house full of pets and rescued strays.
Dr. Carver graduated with honors from Colorado State University where she received both her Bachelor of Science and Doctor of Veterinary Medicine degrees. She completed a one-year internship in small animal medicine and surgery at The Animal Medical Center in New York City and was awarded the Intern of the Year Award by the faculty. Following her internship, Dr. Carver completed a three-year comprehensive residency in small animal orthopedics, soft tissue and neurosurgery at The Animal Medical Center. She is board certified by the American college of Veterinary Surgeons. Dr. Carver served as the Director of Surgery at The North Shore Animal League in Port Washington, NY and in 2000, was honored with the Alex Lewyt Veterinary Medical Center award for achievement by North Shore Animal League America. She is currently on staff with the Department of Surgery at Long Island Veterinary Specialists. Dr. Carver’s areas of special interest include cardiovascular, urogenital, and exotic animal surgery. Dr. Carver enjoys spending time with her family while visiting the rural areas of Long Island. She enjoys vacations in Vermont and keeps busy as a Girl Scout mom. Dr. Carver carries on her family’s tradition of living in a house full of pets and rescued strays. |
Laurie M. Donovan, DVM

Dr. Laurie Donovan graduated Cum Laude with her Bachelor of Science in Animal Science, Pre-Veterinary Medicine from the University of Massachusetts in 2002. In 2007, she graduated Cum Laude with her Doctor of Veterinary Medicine from St. George's University of Veterinary Medicine in Grenada, completing her final year at North Carolina State University. After graduation, Dr. Donovan went on to complete a Rotating Internship in Small Animal Medicine and Surgery from The Center for Specialized Veterinary Care in Westbury, New York where she was honored as the 'Intern of the Year' in 2008. Her professional interests lie in internal medicine, pediatrics, and critical care. We are excited to have Dr. Donovan remain part of the VREC team as an Emergency Clinician in the Emergency and Critical Care Department.

Dr. Sean Hillock earned his Bachelor of Science degree at the University of Florida in Gainesville in 1995. He then graduated with honors and received his Doctorate in Veterinary Medicine at the University of Florida College of Veterinary Medicine. Dr. Hillock completed an internship in small animal medicine and surgery at Long Island Veterinary Specialists and subsequently completed a residency in Internal Medicine under the direction of Dr. John Fondacaro. He is board certified by the American College of Veterinary Internal Medicine. His professional interests include canine and feline respiratory, urogenital, hematological and hepatic diseases.

George Kramer, DVM, DACVIM - Cardiology

A native of Long Island, Dr. George Kramer dreamed of becoming a veterinarian since he was a young boy. His undergraduate studies took place at the University of Vermont and the University of Maryland, where he graduated with honors. After completing his undergraduate studies, he moved to Boston and entered a master’s program in molecular biology at Northeastern University. He then entered veterinary school at Tufts University School of Veterinary Medicine and earned his Doctorate of Veterinary Medicine in 1986. Dr. Kramer subsequently completed a medicine and surgery internship, followed by a residency in internal medicine and cardiology at the prestigious Animal Medical Center in New York City.
Dr. Kramer is board-certified as a Diplomate of the American College of Veterinary Internal Medicine in cardiology. He is the founder and chief of staff of Atlantic Coast Veterinary Specialists in Bohemia, NY as well as the founder and chief operating officer of Ultravet Mobile, a veterinary mobile ultrasound provider. He has professional interests in cardiology, internal medicine, oncology, ultrasonography and echocardiography. In addition to his busy practices, Dr. Kramer serves as ultrasonographer for the Bronx Zoo and Coney Island Aquarium and was recently appointed a fellow of the Wildlife Conservation Society. New York Magazine has listed Dr. Kramer as the best veterinary cardiologist in the NY city area. Dr. Kramer has lectured locally, nationally and internationally. He has given lectures at the annual forums of the American College of Veterinary Internal Medicine, International Symposia of the Veterinary Emergency and Critical Care Society, Veterinary Professional Quest Conferences, Atlantic Coast Veterinary Conferences, Western States Veterinary Conference, University of Paris Veterinary College, Westchester-Rockland Veterinary Medical Association, New York City Veterinary Medical Association and Long Island Veterinary Medical Association. He has published groundbreaking research on cardiomyopathy, novel interventional techniques and valve disease. Dr. Kramer is passionate about veterinary medicine, music, skiing and fishing. |
Dr. Arnold Lesser is a board-certified veterinary surgeon specializing in small-animal general, orthopedic,and neurosurgery. He began the Veterinary Surgical Referral Service 20 years ago to help extend advanced veterinary treatment to the Long Island and greater New York metropolitan areas and is now combining with North Shore Veterinary Surgery in the New York Veterinary Specialty and Emergency Center.
A graduate of Columbia University in New York and the University of Pennsylvania Veterinary Medical School, Dr. Lesser has been a diplomate of the American College of Veterinary Surgeons since 1982. He received advanced training in veterinary orthopedic surgery, including total hip replacement at The Ohio State University, and is certified by Penn Hip. Dr. Lesser has published numerous articles in veterinary journals and has written chapters for various veterinary surgical textbooks. He lectures on orthopedics and reconstructive surgery at local and national meetings. He is a past president of the Veterinary Orthopedic Society and was chosen as one of New York’s Top Veterinarians by New York Magazine in 2002. |
Michael Linderman, DVM, DACVIM / Oncology

Dr. Michael J. Linderman earned his Bachelor of Science in Biochemistry from Stony Brook University in 1998. He earned his DVM at Cornell University College of Veterinary Medicine in 2006 and went on to complete a rotating internship in internal medicine and surgery at the Brightheart Veterinary Emergency and Referral Center in Westbury Long Island. He completed his oncology residency training under the mentorship of Dr. Gerald Post and Dr. Edwin Brodsky. Dr. Linderman has received board certification from the American College of Veterinary Internal Medicine in the specialty of oncology.

Shachar Malka, DVM, DABVP

Dr. Shachar Malka completed an internship at the University of Guelph, Canada and a three year residency program at the University of California, Davis. LIBEVC is the third avian and exotics' specialty practice that Dr. Malka established. Prior to LIBEVC he founded an Avian and Exotics specialty service at VCA specialty hospital in California. He later relocated to New York City to join the Humane Society of New York where he developed their Avian and Exotics Program.
Dr. Malka's professional interests include anesthesia, endoscopy and minimally invasive surgery. Dr. Malka has a strong interest in wildlife conservation. He is the founder of Rift Valley Wildlife Clinics, a 501(c)(3) non-profit that cares for animals in need locally as well as in East Africa, where he volunteers much of his time providing veterinary care in rural areas. Dr. Malka is a member of AAV, AEMV, ARAV, AAZV and AVMA. |
Laura Mitterman, VMD, DACVS-SA

Dr. Laura Mitterman was born and raised in the NYC metropolitan area. She spent 10 years at the University of Pennsylvania, obtaining an undergraduate degree in geology and environmental studies, as well as a veterinary degree from the School of Veterinary Medicine. After veterinary school she returned to do a rotating internship at a large specialty practice in NJ. For the next two years Laura worked in our nation's capital in an amazing general practice. Still drawn to surgery, she completed a surgical internship and residency at the VCA Animal Specialty Center in Yonkers, NY. During her residency she honed her interests in all aspects of surgery but especially minimally invasive surgery and surgical oncology. She has published in peer review journals on minimally invasive surgery.
Outside of work, Laura enjoys distance running, vegan cooking and show tunes. She also enjoys spending time with her partner and their housemates Mable, a Chihuahua mix, and Rhy, the cunning kitty. |
Robin Sturtz, DVM

Dr. Sturtz is a 2004 graduate of the University of Georgia's College of Veterinary Medicine. She has a Certificate in International Medicine as well as a DVM. While in veterinary school she visited and participated in international projects with personnel in Mexico City and Minas Gerais (Brazil). Dr. Sturtz has been privileged to be a veterinary technician educator as well as a veterinary clinician. Her publications include articles regarding cultural competence, ethics and jurisprudence, and the technician as rock star. She is a member of the Alliance for the Safety of Animals and People, a program within Connect, in NYC; the alliance is devoted to raising awareness of animal abuse in its relation to domestic violence, and promoting the establishment of animal-friendly shelters for victims of domestic violence. She is a member of the Board of the NYS Veterinary Medical Society as well as President-elect of LIVMA. Also, she is the servant of a cat named Oscar.
